White Lake, NC


This weekend, we went to White Lake, NC, with my friend Anne, whose family has a house there. It's a beautiful lake-- fairly round, clear water, and sandy bottom. There are many theories on how this lake and other similar nearby lakes were formed so symmetrically. My favorite is that they were formed when the ocean was covering the area and a group of large fish/whales rolled around in those spots and created huge craters. A less exciting theory of course is meteors; however, no meteor-type residue has been located, and yet, in a nearby lake, a whale skeleton was found recently. Here's a link to more pictures.

that's a neat picture with the hammock! is that their house?

that's the dock behind their house. I think you can see their house in some of the shots taken from the dock back toward the shoreline.
