White Lake, NC

This weekend, we went to White Lake, NC, with my friend Anne, whose family has a house there. It's a beautiful lake-- fairly round, clear water, and sandy bottom. There are many theories on how this lake and other similar nearby lakes were formed so symmetrically. My favorite is that they were formed when the ocean was covering the area and a group of large fish/whales rolled around in those spots and created huge craters. A less exciting theory of course is meteors; however, no meteor-type residue has been located, and yet, in a nearby lake, a whale skeleton was found recently. Here's a link to more pictures.

Cats!

Grady and Gracie (Grady is white/gray and Gracie is solid gray) are settling in to their new home. We love them! Here's a picture of them playing on the new kitty tree that Noah built by hand for them.

Grady is adventurous, mischievous, and cuddly (when we wants to be). Gracie is sleek and shy, and she meows a lot. She is opening up some but she's still not quite ready for us to hold her.
Here are more pictures.

Portland, Oregon

August 29-September 2, 2008

Over Labor Day I traveled to Portland. On Friday, I got to meet Colin and hang out with Nanie! Robert and I also went to the Chinese Gardens. Saturday morning Jenny, Robert, and I got up and drove the 3+ hours to Bend in Central Oregon. The landscape really changed along the way. The Deschutes River runs through Bend, and there are many neat shops in the downtown. Sunday morning we went rafting on the very cold river! We also drove along the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway. See more pictures from my trip. It was wonderful!.

Another Thyme

Noah and I went on a date tonight- we went out to eat and then to look at wedding bands. We ate at a restaurant in Durham called Another Thyme. The bread and entrees were great, but the creme brulee (a last minute decision and splurge) was to die for. I think it might be the best dessert I've ever eaten... and that says a lot!

Happy Graduation, Noah!

Noah graduated from the UNC School of Information of Library Science today. Way to go! We also got to celebrate Mother's Day with my mom and dad- we had a traditional Flythe picnic, consisting of fried chicken, pimiento cheese sandwiches, potato chips, and brownies. Mmmm!
