Happy 2006!

I was able to spend this New Year's weekend participating in one of my all-time favorite activities: hiking! There's a saying that what you do on New Year's Day is an indication of what the new year will bring. I hope there's a lot more hiking in my future, but I just hope that I'll spend more time on my feet than I did this weekend.

My friend, Noah, came to visit, and we spent a lot of time out on the trails. We hiked Price Lake, the Firetower trail at Moses Cone, and Boone Fork Trail. The trails at Price Lake and Boone Fork were pretty icy (i.e. a 2-inch layer of ice on the path), and it was treacherous at times. At one point, I honestly fell flat on my back and had the experience of feeling what it must be like to be on the US Luge Team (Look for me in Torino this February). Fortunately, my hiking companion was there to help me up. Oh wait, nope, he was too busy laughing hysterically. I have a nice strawberry on my elbow to prove my fierce dedication to hiking.

Other weekend activities included watching sports on tv, seeing the movie, King Kong, and eating. What could be better?
